Bruichladdich
Pop-up Store

2022
School Platform Project:
Bruichladdich Pop-up Store

Under the guidance of Prof. Christian Gilles Boucharenc & Tan Sixiu
In Collaboration with Ye Lin

Remy Contreau approached the school to design a pop-up store at Changi Airport Terminal 2, to promote the Laddie Eight Bruichladdich Whiskey. In this platform, students were challenged to think out of the box, create a memorable experience for visitors with the element of whiskey tasting to promote their product.

My group had decided to hone the idea of whiskey tasting and create an experience of whiskey tasting that would transport visitors to the origins of the Bruichladdich distillery in Islay, Scotland. We were intrigued by the juxtaposition of the stability and brutality as shown in distillery buildings with the context of the soft and beautiful greenery of Islay.

Furthermore, Islay hosts an annual Whiskey festival, where people would come together to enjoy whiskey in the vast greeneries together.

Our concept features a show display box as an educational retail space and is effective in attracting visitors from afar. On the other hand, we feature a picnic site under the classic garden party gazebo, creating a cozy and comfortable environment for the whisky tasting experience.

Also, we made sure that the pop up store has to look visually attractive with the Bruichladdich branding communicated from all angles since there is traffic all around.

My team was also really proud of the model that we had presented to the Bruichladdich team on our final presentation day.

At the end of the day, our concept had not been chosen. However, it was really heartwarming to have the marketing director mention that our concept had been a runner-up in their decision making!

I am really grateful to have had this opportunity to have this experience as part of my journey in NUS DID, where it was an immense learning experience working with clients to clearly communicate their brand yet pushing it further to explore new possibilities. I am also extremely grateful to our supervisors and Bruichladdich team to have had supported and taught us along the way.
